What is the best way to stop all skids?

Apply the brakes hard.

Restore traction to the tires.

When a skid happens, the tires have lost traction with the road, so your first goal is to get that traction back. Restoring grip lets the tires respond to your steering and braking again, which is what lets you regain control and slow or stop smoothly. The key action is to ease off the forces causing the slip—lift off the brake (and ease off the accelerator if you’re accelerating)—and then steer gradually toward the direction you want the car to go as traction returns. Once grip is back, you can brake or adjust speed normally. Forcing the brakes harder during a skid or steering while the tires are sliding tends to lock the tires or push the car off course, making control harder.

Steer in the direction of the skid.

Ease off the brakes and steer gradually.
